Home Sweet Home Guitar Lesson – Motley Crue

In this Home Sweet Home Guitar Lesson I will not only demonstrate how to play all the guitar riffs and solos note-for-note, but I will also show you an easy way to play the piano part on the guitar as well. 🙂

"Home Sweet Home" was originally released on Motley Crue's 1985 album Theatre of Pain. "Home Sweet Home" became a massive success for Motley Crue and it's status as a power ballad became a formula that many other 80's bands would follow.

In the first video lesson I will demonstrate how to play the opening piano section, the acoustic guitar verse overdubs and chorus. The piano part can actually be performed almost note-for-note on the guitar without much difficulty. I do use a fingerstyle approach to play the piano parts so if you don't have much experience with fingerpicking it may be a bit of a challenge. However, the picking pattern is a very simple one that repeats over and over so it can be a nice introduction to the technique of fingerstyle guitar.

Over the opening piano verse you will also hear a nice complimentary arpeggio picked acoustic guitar riff. This riff is an excellent picking exercise that is not very difficult to play.

The 3rd and final thing I will show you in the first lesson video is the chorus riff. It is quite unique in it's construction with it's combination of power chords and staccato descending licks. However, once again there isn't too much to worry about here on a technical level.

In the 2nd lesson video I will demonstrate how to play the guitar solo note-for-note. As most Mick Mars solo are, it is a highly melodic solo with a little bit of flash as well. Mick Mars has always had a knack of writing solos that are instantly recognizable and become a big part of the song.

There are a couple of fast licks within the solo but they are very repetitive which should help you grasp them very quickly. Just isolate those sections of the solo and practice them over and over again in a loop while trying to keep everything as precise as possible. Pretty soon the muscle memory will kick in and you won't have to think about it very much at all. Those fast notes will just seem to pop out of your fingers.
