Writing Modal Progressions

Ok here it is as promised. Today we are going to study how to write modal progressions that you can record and improvise over or just use as the basis for a composition.

The next lesson will once again be a video lesson describing how to apply these modal progression studies to the guitar.

I really encourage you to try and experiment writing as many modal progressions as you can, trying to be as creative with it as possible. Then, you will quickly make all of this material part of the way you naturally create on the guitar.

Try to just adsorb all this theory and I will see you tomorrow with a video lesson that will apply this modal progression theory to the guitar.

    That was a good lesson, I found it really useful, I had been wondering what to do with slash chords and how to make a proper modal progression for a while and this explained it.

    I was wondering if u r goin to teach how to read sheet music for the guitar. Also, I can read music for a trumpet and sax, and was wondering if its differant in any ways?

      Hey Frank, I guess it would depend on the amount of interest I hear from people about learning to read sheet music. Unfortunately, most guitarists these days don’t seem to be very interested in learning how to properly read sheet music, so I am not sure if it would be worth the time and effort it would require for me to tackle such a large subject. I hope so though because I think it is invaluable. 🙂

    Many thanks to You Carl, I have played the guitar for over 10 years now, and actually got stuck at one point some years back. I simply coundnt find anybody to give me the proper basic theory until NOW. You have opened the box of my mind, I finally understand what I play. I do what I want, not the other way around !!!
    All in all, great job youre doing here !!!
