Changing Chords

So now that we have memorized all of our basic position chords, we are ready to begin to learn how to play chord progressions in rhythm.

A chord progression is really just a fancy way of saying that we are gonna move from one chord to another and hopefully in some sort of rhythm.

As you might imagine, you need to know the open position chords very thoroughly before attempting to go from one to the other because your mind has to be able to comprehend all those chord shapes very quickly.

This will all seem like second nature too you very soon, but for now you may feel it to be almost impossible.

Don't worry, you will get a lot better, VERY QUICKLY!!

So here is a little exercise that you can do to make sure you are ready to start using these chords in progressions. It is a very simple method to use that can work wonders for the left hand chord shapes and have us ready to add rhythm in the right hand with ease.

If you don't have the PDF of all the open position chords get it here.

Such a elegantly simple and effective method, yet I’ve ever been shown it before. Thanks.
