Bombtrack Guitar Lesson – Rage Against The Machine

In this Bombtrack guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this killer song that opens Rage Against the Machine's debut album.

The tuning is standard tuning.

Tom Morello starts the song off by playing a repeated pentatonic sequence that is doubled an octave lower by bassist Tim Commerford. This intro can be a little bit tricky to memorize and get under your fingers, so I will break it down and identify the patterns within it so that it doesn't seem like a random sequence of notes.

From there, the full band kicks in with the main riff of the song, which also serves as the chorus riff.

The verse riff that follows contains some slight bends along with a fun descending blues scale lick.

Later in the song we find the bridge section that incorporates a lot of pull-offs to the open low E and A strings. Over this bridge riff, Tom Morello launches into his solo. This is one of his more simple solos with some quick triad chord stabs followed by a couple of simple licks.

Towards the end of the song, there is also a short solo that I will go through phrase-by-phrase.

I hope you guys enjoy learning this early Rage Against The Machine track!
