Breed Guitar Lesson – Nirvana

In this Breed guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play one of my favorite songs by Nirvana.

This one really rocks from beginning to end and is a lot of fun to play with very few technical challenges.

The main riff is based around two basic power chords with some open low E string notes thrown in there as well. The pitch of the last power chord in this riff is slightly raised in big by pulling the strings downward a little bit.

The verse is based around just one simple diad but still sounds really cool. Kurt Cobain used all downstrokes to play this riff in order to give it a very in your face feel about it. I suggest you do the same. The slightly warbled note that ends the riff each time creates a very cool effect as well. I will show you how Kurt Cobain does it in the lesson video.

The chorus is once again based around basic power chord shapes. The rhythm is very distinct in this riff, so I will break down the strumming patterns you should be playing as well.

The final thing I will tackle in this lesson is Kurt Cobain's guitar solo. This solo uses octave shapes throughout. It also incorporates a lot of tremolo picking.

For those of you unfamiliar with playing octaves on the guitar, I will demonstrate the necessary muting required to make them sound correct.

I hope you guys have a lot of fun with this one from Nirvana!
