Daughter Guitar Lesson – Pearl Jam

In this acoustic Daughter guitar lesson, I will show you all the chords to this great song by Pearl Jam.

I am going to focus on just the acoustic guitar parts in this one since that is really the foundation of the song. With just one guitar you will be able to do a full realization of the song.

In order to follow along with this lesson and the original recording, you will need to put you guitar into an open G tuning. Those notes will be, starting from the 6th string (G G D G B D). So essentially you can start with a standard tuned guitar and tune the low 6th string up to G, then tune the 5th string down to G. After that, all that is left is to tune the 1st string down to D.

Once you get into this tuning you will find that it is a lot of fun to play in. Pearl Jam makes full use of this tuning by being able to create a cool chord progression using the same chord shape shifted back and forth a couple of frets with open strings ringing around it. It creates a nice full sound.

For completeness sake, I will demonstrate the quick little arpeggiated picking sequence at the very beginning of the recording. Following that, we will take a look at the main progression along with with the little bridge section.

To end things I will show you the variation played on the main riff that happens after the guitar solo section.

"Daughter" is a lot of fun to play, so hopefully it won't take you guys very long to get it down. Don't be afraid of that tuning!
