Don’t Dream It’s Over Guitar Lesson – Crowded House

In this Don't Dream It's Over guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all of the chords and guitar solo for this Crowded House ballad.

Released in 1986 off of their self-titled debut album, "Don't Dream It's Over" became their biggest hit reaching the top of the charts all over the world.

The success of "Don't Dream It's Over" is because of it's beautiful vocal melodies, thoughtful lyrics and great guitar work.

We will be using standard tuning for this one, just as guitarist/vocalist Neil Finn did on the original recording.

Pretty much all of the guitar parts require you to play bar chords throughout. The use of bar chords is what allows Finn to produce the snappy rhythms used in the picking hand. By doing the bar chords, you are able to control the muting and timing of each chord more effectively.

If you can play bar chords reasonably well, you shouldn't have much trouble learning all of the rhythm guitar parts to "Don't Dream It's Over".

In addition to those chords, guitarist Neil Finn plays a really cool guitar solo. This solo is great for the intermediate level guitarist to learn. I will show you how to play it phrase-by-phrase.

I hope you guys enjoy learning one of the greatest songs of the 80's!
