How to play Fly Away – Lenny Kravitz
In this quick little video guitar lesson, I will teach you how to play Fly Away by Lenny Kravitz note-for-note.
We have a pretty simple one to deal with here, in fact, there is only one chord progression for the entire song. Yep this is gonna be quick... 🙂
All you really need to be able to do decently well to be playing "Fly Away" in a matter of minutes is to be able to play simple barre chords. If you can't, I suggest checking out the first of my barre chord lessons.
This chord progression contains a simple major barre chord throughout most of it. However, Lenny Kravitz does add a couple of little tricks to keep it interesting.
First things first, make sure you get the rhythm down. Simply practice the first chord in the chord progression, playing that rhythm over and over again until it's nailed. That will be one less thing to think about when putting the chords together.
When you make your way up to playing the chord at the 8th fret, you will need to hammer-0n every finger except for the barre finger. It is easier that it sounds and helps to mix up the sound of the chords a bit so it doesn't sound so predictable.
The last chord in the progression is also a major barre chord, yet this time it is built off of the 5th string. So you will have to play a different chord shape here.
Also on the last chord, Lenny Kravitz does a short chord embellishment by playing the Dsus4 chord real quick. That will required to do a pull-off with your little finger, so isolate that part in order to master it.
So that is about it, not much more to say since there is only one progression to learn. However, Lenny Kravitz figured out a way to make this one chord progression to be the foundation of a massive hit. Have Fun! 🙂
