Interstate Love Song Guitar Lesson – Stone Temple Pilots

In this video guitar lesson I will show you how to play all the chords to the Stone Temple Pilots' number one hit "Interstate Love Song".

This great song has some really cool stuff to learn in it. There are some cool guitar licks that requires good bending skills and some really unorthodox chords as well.

In this Interstate Love Song guitar lesson I will show you all of these parts note-for-note.

The song starts with a quick acoustic section which is comprised mostly of the same chords as the chorus. So learning this section will have you 90% percent finished with the chorus that comes later in the song.

When the full band kicks in you will hear a really cool guitar riff that is heard many times throughout the song. It basically serves as the main hook in the song.

This little guitar lick can be a bit tricky to keep in tune due to the bending going on, but just make sure you don't over bend the notes since they are simply half-step bends.

The verse chords are definitely the most unorthodox of all the sections of the song. The DeLeo brothers are very good at employing uncommon chord voicings in their songs and Interstate Love Song is a prime example.

A couple of the chord changes in the verse can be a bit awkward and sound a bit dissonant without the bass guitar accompaniments. For one particular chord change I will show you the technique of using a guide finger to help make the chord change easier and smoother. You can find other ways of performing chord changes while using a guide finger in other songs you play as well after learning this concept.

After that we will cover the chords to the chorus. As I mentioned before, you will find the chorus chords to be just an extension of the chords you learned in the intro. Have fun with this 90's classic!
