Leper Messiah Guitar Lesson – Metallica

In this Leper Messiah guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all of this Metallica classic off of their Master Of Puppets album.

The tuning on the original recording is standard tuning, however, Metallica usually tunes down one half-step when playing live these days.

There are some great riffs in this one that incorporate a lot of 4th intervals instead of just strict power chords. This way of playing the chord voicings, along with the bass guitar playing the true root note, creates the impression that the are playing a power chord an octave lower than they really are. It creates a huge sound!

I will go through each riff in the order that each appears in the song.

Kirk Hammett has a couple of interlude sections where he plays some repeated melodic figures and of course, his main solo as well.

The main solo starts out with a series of three string sweeps across E minor, F major and G major arpeggios that then launches into a fast descending scale sequence.

From there we have some quick bluesy licks culminating in a signature Kirk Hammett repetitive lick to close the solo out. It is short but sweet!

I hope you guys enjoy learning this one!
