Livin’ Thing Guitar Lesson – Electric Light Orchestra

In this Livin' Thing guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all of the chords for this much loved classic by Electric Light Orchestra.

Written by the great Jeff Lynne and released in 1976, "Livin' Thing" became a hit single for ELO. "Livin' Thing" is a propelled by driving acoustic guitar rhythms and great vocal melodies.

There are some really nice chord progressions in this one as well, and for most of them you can choose a couple of different ways to play them.

Jeff Lynne typically fingers his bar chords the way Jimi Hendrix did, with his thumb playing the notes that occur on the low E string. That is sometimes a bit uncomfortable for some players, so I will demonstrate the more conventional way of playing those chords in addition to the way Jeff Lynne actually plays them so you can decide what you like the best. Either way, it sounds the same.

I will go through each section of the song in the order that they appear.

This is such a catchy and fun song to play and I hope you enjoy learning it!
