Love Me Like You Do Guitar Chords Lesson – Ellie Goulding

One of my favorite things to do is to take a song that was not originally recorded on guitar and transcribe it in a nice and easy way to play on the guitar.

In this Love Me Like You Do guitar chords lesson, I will show you a simple arrangement of this pop smash hit by Ellie Goulding on the acoustic guitar.

To keep the song in the original key and still make it easily playable on the guitar, you will need to tune your guitar to standard tuning then put a capo at the first fret. That will keep the barre chords to a minimum and allow you to play 90% of the song with just simple open position chords.

I will demonstrate how to play all of the chords and progressions on the guitar that are heard on the original recording being played by a keyboard synth pad. The different sections use similar chords so as soon as you learn the chords to the verse, you will already know how to play 80% of the song.

When it comes to the rhythms that you should play, focus a lot on the instrumentation of the track. Sometimes, in the more subdued parts of the song, it sounds good just to strum each chord once and let it continue to ring out. At other times, especially when the full drum beat is being played (ie. the chorus), a full 16th note strumming pattern will sound great. You will see how I perform it in the video lesson.

I think this Love Me Like You Do guitar chords lesson would be great for the beginning level guitarist to learn for a couple of reasons. First, it is pretty easy to play with just one barre chord to deal with. Because of the use of the capo, you will simply have to play only basic open position chords most of the time.

Second, I think it is a great way to develop your ear when you have to follow along with a guitar arrangement. I will show you the chords, but then it is your job to really listen for when those chords are being played on the keyboards from the original recording. This is a great way to realize that no matter what the instrument, it is all just chords and melodies that can be played on any instrument that can play chords.

Alright that is about it from me! Have Fun!
