Now That We’re Dead Guitar Lesson – Metallica

In this Now That We're Dead guitar lesson video series, I will show you how to play this great new track off of their Hardwired...to self-destruct album.

We will be using standard tuning just like the original studio recoding. However, you will find that they tune down in most live performances of "Now That We're Dead".

I will break this lesson series up into two separate video lessons.

The first lesson will cover all of the rhythm guitar parts in the order that they appear in the song. The second video will cover Kirk Hammett's guitar solo along with James Hetfield's riff based solo that appears just after Kirk's solo.

For the rhythm guitar parts, many of them are pretty straightforward and not very difficult to play. These riffs are a lot more stripped down than a lot of Metallica guitar parts you have played.

That isn't to say that there aren't any tricky parts, but when it comes to James Hetfield's rhythm guitar work, this is going to be one of his most accessible tunes.

I will go through each riff in the order that it appears in the song. I will usually give the exact minute and second mark of each new riff if it isn't obvious where I am at in the song.

Also, even though I don't cover the rhythm parts under the solo in the video lesson, you will just need to play the main riff followed by the pre-chorus riff under Kirk's solo.

The second video begins with a play-through of Kirk Hammett's short solo. This solo, as is the case with many of his solos, is full of a lot of quick legato licks and wah-inflected double-stops.

I will break the solo down phrase-by-phrase to make it a bit easier to get it memorized and under your fingers.

After Kirk's solo, there is sort of a solo riff section played by James Hetfield. These riffs are probably the most difficult parts of the song from a rhythm guitar standpoint. Some of the rhythms can be pretty difficult to get locked into.

I will once again break each of these riffs down note-for-note.
