The Scientist Guitar Lesson – Coldplay

In this acoustic guitar lesson, we are going to learn an acoustic guitar arrangement of one of Coldplay's most beloved songs "The Scientist".

As the second single off their A Rush of Blood to the Head album, "The Scientist" went on to become one of Coldplay's most popular songs both with fans and critics alike.

In this The Scientist guitar lesson, I will show you how to play all of those piano chords on the guitar in a reasonably easy fashion. This requires a capo at the 5th fret with the guitar in standard tuning.

There is a still a bar chord to contend with but they are kept to a minimum due to the use of the capo. The is the case for a lot of music not originally written on the guitar. In order to keep it in the original key (like I do in this lesson), you sometimes need to use a capo to make it comfortable to play.

In any case, we have only a few chord progressions to learn to get the entire track down. The main verse progression is the same as the intro and probably the most identifiable part of the song. It is a beautiful chord progression that ends with a G sus4 chord that helps it sound a little less predictable.

The other progressions in "The Scientist" use a lot of the same chords as the intro, so after you can play the beginning of the song, you are well on your way to mastering the whole thing.

I will work you through all the chord progressions as they happen in the song and point out an variations they may use.
