What I Like About You Guitar Lesson – The Romantics

In this What I Like About You guitar lesson, I will show you how to play this great rhythm guitar workout by The Romantics in it's entirety.

This lesson and the original recording are in standard tuning.

The opening guitar rhythm will be the most difficult challenge for you in this lesson. The chords move around the fretboard very quickly and the aggressive strumming style needs to be precise as well. You will also hear this riff at the end of the song.

When we make it to the first verse, things get much easier with basic open position chords. Pay close attention here though, because the rhythm is slightly different on the original recording than you might have heard it played before.

In addition to that, I'll tackle the solo section which although very short has some cool chord work as well.

I hope you enjoy learning this fun and great rhythm guitar workouts from The Romantics.

Hi Carl, This is a really good lesson to learn one of my favourite songs. I started learning electric guitar when I was working since 2013 and took lessons from a Teacher every week for the first year, then I started to learn Blues Guitar online for all the technical stuff and then in 2015 I retired and had more time. I made a list of songs I want to learn and the ones I have saved in my bookmark here are part of about 60 songs I want to learn. I find that your teaching method makes it simple to learn each song and fun and the real test would be to play along with the original song. Once I have learnt some songs here I will have a look at your premium lessons to see how they can help me as I reached advanced beginner/Intermediate. All good and I’m glad I came across you through this song.

Hi Carl, I will add that I am focused around 12 Bar Blues and 8 Bar Blues songs and Blues, Rock n Roll- Chuck Berry, Rolling Stones, Beatles plus songs of interest..I will be playing for fun mainly but if I get good enough I have already been invited to play a 12 Bar blues song jamming with a Rock n Roll Band at a gig when the time comes for fun.
I enjoy doing your online lessons and thanks to “What I Like About You” guitar lesson brought me to you. It usually takes me about 1-2 months to learn a song especially trying to remember everything but I can read Tab sheets directly to guitar.
    Thanks

Thanks for the info Michael and I appreciate you watching my lessons!

Whenever you do get around to wanting to join the GL365 Academy, I suggest you take a look at the blues guitar courses in Academy. All the blues concepts become cemented into your playing quicker when you see those concepts appear in the music you are learning and playing. For instance, seeing how your favorite players use the same scale forms you are learning in the blues improvisation course is a real eye opening and rewarding experience.

So when you do join the academy, don’t stop learning new songs as well because both the theory study and song study work well together. 🙂

    Hi Carl,
Happy New Year 2019, I am back, I have been practising almost every day but mainly on my list of songs to learn per stage. I have to right things down to help my memory as I am retired but find once I grasp how to play the song and keep up the practice it sinks in gradually. The 365 Academy sounds good but I will struggle to get that much practise done and keep up monthly and I am on a limited budget being retired. Are your songs/lessons available on DVD or can you choose which songs in packages. I find that a lot of your songs I would learn like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Romantics. I like your teaching method so once I can get more advanced I might look at joining later. All Good many thanks Michael-Sydney-Australia 22 Jan 2019.
