Wouldn’t It Be Nice Guitar Lesson – The Beach Boys

When I moved out to Los Angeles from my east coast home in 2000, I spent the entire 3 day road trip listening the album Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys over and over again. The brilliance of this album along with much of The Beach Boy's catalog is simply Earth shattering. As both Paul McCartney and John Lennon have stated many times, without Pet Sounds, there would be no Sgt. Pepper.

In this Wouldn't It Be Nice guitar lesson video, I will show you a nice guitar arrangement of this opening track from this much loved album.

I am using a standard tuned guitar for this one and you can choose whether to play it on acoustic or electric guitar.

For the classic intro, I have taken everything down an octave to make it more playable on the guitar. This is true for both the intro and bridge section. It is also these parts of the song that are by far the most difficult to play since we are taking something that wasn't originally played on the guitar and trying to make it playable.

Even if this part of the song is very challenging for you to play, don't give up on it! Once you get it together it sounds great and will be a great exercise as well.

From there "Wouldn't It Be Nice" is much easier to play as long as you can confidently play bar chords. There are other times that I will incorporate melodies from other instruments within the chords themselves. But when I can, I will try to make everything as simple to play as possible. Some of the chords you will be learning are very nice by the way, so you will probably want to memorize them to use in your own playing.

So I hope you guys enjoy learning this classic song from The Beach Boys!

That was my plan originally. I was going to work on some Christmas arrangements. However, the Thomas Fire up here in Ventura, CA kept me from working on lessons for about 2 weeks.

We either didn’t have power or had to be ready to evacuate at a moment’s notice so I wasn’t able to get anything done this year. I will be sure to make up for it next year though!
