Blue on Black Guitar Lesson – Kenny Wayne Shepherd

In this Blue on Black guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this great song by Kenny Wayne Shepherd, from the complete chord progressions all the way through the main guitar solo.

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

The rhythm guitar parts are instantly recognizable and pretty simple to play. Kenny sticks with the main riff for most of the song with just a couple extra chords thrown in there within the chorus and guitar solo.

Most of this video lesson will be dedicated to showing you how to play Kenny's main guitar solo note-for-note. I will go through the solo phrase-by-phrase giving you a detailed understanding of what is happening for the entire solo. Quick note, Kenny uses a Chicago Iron Tycobrahe Octavia pedal in this solo but I won't be using anything like that in this video lesson. That way, you can hear how it is actually played more easily. But if you want that same sort of tone that Kenny is getting, I suggest trying out either the same pedal or some other octave/fuzz pedal.

From there I will talk about how to use the stuff you learned in the main guitar solo to improvise your own thing for the other solo sections of the song.

I hope you enjoy learning this Kenny Wayne Shepherd classic! Carl...
