Renegade Guitar Lesson – Styx

In this Renegade guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this great song by Styx it its entirety.

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

For the rhythm guitar parts, we have a lot of fun yet pretty simple riffs to learn. I will cover each riff in the order that each appears on the original recording. I will also demonstrate who is playing what in each section between guitarists Tommy Shaw and James "JY" Young.

I will also cover James Young's main guitar solo which is anything but simple. It is a blues based barrage of fast licks, big bends and covers most of the fretboard. For the most part, I will cover the solo note-for-note. However, there are a couple sections of it that is nearly impossible to play exactly note-for-note.

For James' outro solo, I will let you know the scale forms he is using so you can improvise your own thing instead of going through it note-for-note.

Have fun learning this classic rock masterpiece by Styx! Carl...
