Randy Rhoads Style Diminished Arpeggios
In this "Lick Of The Week" free video guitar lesson from guitarlessons365.com you will learn how to play diminished arpeggios in the style of the great Randy Rhoads.
There are many ways to finger and pick these types of arpeggios. I have chosen a sweep picking pattern to play them to more closely achieve that Randy Rhaods sound.
Randy Rhoads used this pattern a few times in his solos. Most notably in his unaccompanied guitar solo during "Suicide Solution" on the live tribute album. By the way, if you don't have that album I highly suggest picking it up. I think it is Randy Rhoads at his absolute best!
The pattern is rather simple and shouldn't take long to grasp. Then you just repeat it across different string sets. There are a few big stretches as well, but as long as you position your thumb on the back of the neck in the proper position you shouldn't have much of a problem doing the stretches no matter how long your fingers are.

but it sound good over f# dominate chords too.
Triads
A C EB

F#A#C# E Drop the C# and still think triad.
You lose the 5th in the C shape chord any way
I was taught that you spell triads using just 7 basic triads all found in C major.
Double flats and sharps are a part of music so they get used in some keys.
The C major scale in triads

B D F
This was in grammar school but most triads will use only these notes any way so it a good idea to memorize them.
Don’t see the screen well so there may be typos , sorry thank God I hear real good.
I noticed for the shapes your fingering was 1st, 2nd, 4th.
When I was learning this I felt more comfortable playing it 1st, 3rd, 4th.
Should I be using 1st, 2nd, 4th or odes it not matter and is basically your own personal preference?

Hey Brian, it is definitely a personal preference. Many players play it both ways, some switching to 1 3 4 higher up the fretboard then 1 2 4 around the larger fret areas.
Whatever works for you is great. Paul Gilbert uses 1 3 4 throughout the entire fingerboard and no one can say he doesn’t know what he is doing. LOL… 🙂
