The Magic of Sustaining Scales

I have a fun one for you today! We are going to take a look at one of my favorite techniques to use on acoustic guitar or when using a clean tone on my electric. I call it sustaining scales.

I picked this concept up from the late great Ted Greene. TedGreene.com has tons of Ted's teachings that are passed along from past students of his, all for free. So if you want to see this concept taken to a much higher level with harp harmonics and more, go check out his site.

To more easily follow along with this video lesson, make sure you download the TAB below.

The gorgeous sound that this technique creates usually requires some pretty big stretches, but, it is worth it in the end. I will demonstrate how I usually walk into larger chord forms in the video lesson and that way of playing makes the chords much easier to play.

I hope you enjoy learning this exciting and very inspiring way to play scales!

hey Carl also isn’t it true to you can also continue the ascending and or descending scale of the key you’re in right into the next octave of that pattern pretty much all over the guitar fretboard like 1st finger 3rd finger repeat then 1st 2nd and 4th probably confused you but I’m saying like your playing in c then you can walk that pattern into the next c in that same pattern 1 octave higher or 1 0ctave lower thank you you are great!
