Using Harmonics While Soloing – Guitar Lesson

This free video guitar lesson from guitarlessons365.com focuses on using octave harmonics while soloing.

The technique of playing octave harmonics is a pretty easy one to master and can greatly enhance the note range of your solos. You can reach all those extremely high notes that are well beyond a traditional fretted guitar's range.

Mixing in harmonics within a solo can greatly enhance not only the guitar's range, but it's expressive capabilities as well. You can easily enhance a melody line by incorporating octave harmonics to play it within a solo.

Pay close attention to the right hand instructions you will see in this video guitar lesson. There is more than one way to perform octave harmonics in the right hand. However, generally speaking, if you have a pick in your hand most players would choose to use it to pluck the strings. Therefore, you would need to hold the pick between your middle finger and thumb since the index finger will be the one actually fingering the harmonic.
