Danny Boy Guitar Lesson Videos For Solo Guitar

In this song lesson lesson you will learn a solo guitar arrangement of the traditional Irish tune "Danny Boy".

Even though this Danny Boy guitar lesson is in the chord melody style, I tried not to make it very jazzy. In fact, the harmonization of the melody is pretty straight forward.

However, this arrangement does have a few technical hurdles you may need to climb first. I wanted this Danny Boy guitar lesson to at least challenge you a little bit. 🙂

For the most part the difficulty lies in the big chord stretches thrown throughout the tune. I think these not only make it a good chord workout, but they also sound better on the guitar.

Try to keep the melody prominent over the harmony. It isn't that difficult since the top note of every chord is the melody note, and all the single notes are melody notes as well.

Also, I taught this Danny Boy guitar lesson on a nylon string acoustic but don't let that stop you if you don't have one. Nylon string is just my preferred acoustic sound, but any steel string acoustic or electric will work.

I think this arrangement will not only be a good chord workout for those who try it, but also a nice fingerpicking study as well. Making all of those notes within the chords sound even with fingerpicking is the tricky part.

Hey the videos are directly underneath the TAB link. If you can’t see the videos it probably has something to do with the device you are using to watch the lessons.

Try to watch them on a standard computer or try a different browser and see how that works. Good Luck!

Hey Nadia, yeah the videos are just YouTube embeds and they are usually just watched online. However, there are plenty of free YouTube browser plugins that would allow you to freely download any video that is on the page to your computer.

They aren’t very hard to use but would require a little set up at first. Just google YouTube video download plugin for whatever browser you use and you should find plenty of free options.

      Thanks for watching my lessons!

    Hey, Carl!

I have been watching your YouTube lessons and they’re very helpful! I’ve also seen that you have an entirely separate section for acoustic songs, and I thought I’d put in a request. It’s called “A New Day” by Michael Angelo Batio. I’d love to learn this song, but my ear is not able to pick out notes quite yet. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Daniel
