I Remember You Guitar Lesson – Skid Row

FavoriteLoadingBookmark this Lesson.

In this guitar lesson video series, we will take an in-depth look at the always ripping Skid Row and their hit power ballad "I Remember You".

In the first I Remember You guitar lesson below, we will be taking a look at the main acoustic riffs that open the song and that also makes up a majority of the verse.

The riff is based around just two simple chords but is made much more difficult by some agile fills thrown in between the changes that requires a pretty accurate picking touch.

If you follow the picking indications that I demonstrate in the video, everything will be much easier. The key is to make the picking of those fills as economical as possible.

Of course there is the issue of having to do hammer-ons and pulls-offs on an acoustic guitar, but as long your guitar is set up well it shouldn't be much of a problem.

If you do have a problem with any of the fills, simply isolate it and practice it by itself over and over again while staying in rhythm. That kind of detailed practice is how you can overcome most technical difficulties on the guitar.

In the second lesson we will cover all the heavy guitar riffs found in the rest of the song. A lot of the guitar riffs move around quite a bit and have a bunch of fills as well. So even though it is rhythm guitar work, it is still kept very interesting but not too challenging technically.

In the third and final video lesson, I will tackle that amazing guitar solo note-for-note. There are some really great and unusual guitar licks in this one so make sure you follow along phrase-by-phrase just like I teach it.

There is also a quick outro solo which I will cover at the end of the third video. It contains a great repeated legato lick to help build up your frethand chops.

Hope you guys enjoy learning this great 80's power ballad classic by one of my favorite bands of that era. 🙂

    Hi Carl,
Mark here. Really brings back memories! I always thought I knew how to play that one but I can now see that I was missing a part on the fill. Stupid question: How do we “like” a video of yours? I would “like” them all.
    Thanks,
    Mark

I love the solo in this song. Thanks for doing a lesson this. I would love to see some White Lion which I don’t think you have done yet. They have so many awesome songs. I think there is a lot to be learned from these lessons. Vito Bratta was a amazing guitar player. 🙂

It would be great to know which amps and tone settings you are using to get this unique tone of the solo…

    thanks

Gonna start doing some tone tips lessons that go with each new electric lesson. 🙂

Hey Carl, how about a lesson on “Heaven” by Warrent. I don’t believe you have any Warrent yet, and it seems pretty easy…lots of conflicting vids on the web.

I would be happy to do any songs I get enough requests for. Don’t get many requests for Warrant. Probably only “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” if anything at all.

Anyone else want to see some Warrant?

    Warrant – Heaven 🙂

Yeah I would love to see Heaven by Warrant. Uncle Tom’s Cabin cannot compare to Heaven IMHO.
