I Want to Break Free Guitar Lesson – Queen

In this I Want to Break Free guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all of the chords for this song by Queen while also showing you how to play the keyboard solo on guitar as well!

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

What I have decided to do for this arrangement of "I Want to Break Free" is try to and recreate the chord voicings you are hearing on the original recording, which for a lot of the time contains no guitar at all or very minimal acoustic strumming. Having said that, I also won't be covering those signature harmonized guitar licks that Brian May throws in there from time-to-time.

What I will be covering, in addition to the chords, is that crazy keyboard solo which was performed by studio musician Fred Mandel. It is such a recognizable part of the song, I thought I just had to include it. 🙂

Since the keyboard solo was originally performed on a Roland Jupiter-8 synthesizer, some of the licks can be a bit awkward and challenging to play on the guitar. But it is fun nonetheless!

I hope you enjoy learning this much loved Queen classic! Carl...
