I Want to Know What Love Is Guitar Lesson – Foreigner

In this I Want to Know What Love Is guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all of the chords to this massive hit ballad by Foreigner.

The tuning for this acoustic guitar arrangement is Eb standard tuning to make it the most playable on the guitar without having to use a bunch of barre chords. That tuning is, starting from the 6th string, Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb.

Essentially, we have three different chord progressions in "I Want to Know What Love Is". There is the verse, pre-chorus and chorus sections.

The intro is a variation of the verse progression, and the very first time you hear the verse it is played slightly different than the remaining verse sections. I will cover all of those variations.

Since this is mostly a synth based song, all of this is just my arrangement of the song on the guitar. I think I found a good middle ground that makes is pretty easy to play, while still remaining close to the original track with the chord voicings.

Have fun with this one! Carl...

Great song carl, you sang it well. One of the greatest bands of the 70’s and 80″s. Hoping to see more of them in the future on your play list

I agree about Foreigner– such great tunes and the crowds love their songs—Double Vision, Feels like the First time, Head games, Hot Blooded, Juke Box Hero, Urgent, Waiting for a Girl like you, Say you Will.

If you can do some of these songs, it would be awesome.. I’m an advanced Guitar player –both Classical and Rock. But not all songs we play have to be virtuoso guitar playing to be great tunes to play in bands. These songs are great fun! The writing from Mick Jones and Lou Gramm ( one of best Rock singers of all time– tone range, etc) were great!!!
    Thanks.
