In Too Deep Guitar Lesson – Sum 41

In this In Too Deep guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all of this smash hit by Sum 41 note-for-note.

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

This is definitely a fun one that can be quite challenging as well.

Guitarist/lead vocalist Deryck Whibley and lead guitarist Dave Baksh play a series of riffs that at times form harmony guitar lines, and at other times come together for a more powerful sound. I will take you through each of these riffs, demonstrating each guitar part separately in the order that each appears on the original recording.

Besides the riffs, I will also cover Dave Baksh's guitar solo note-for-note. This solo also uses some harmony guitar lines, but I will just be focusing on the main harmony line, like he plays live.

The trickiest part of the solo is having to jump into a tapped lick then jump to an area further up the fretboard for a legato lick, only to have to jump back down the fretboard again to perform the tapping lick again. There is an easier way to play this tapping lick using fret-hand fingers only, so I will demonstrate how Dave plays the lick, and an alternate (easier) way as well.

This one is a blast to play once you get it under your fingers. I hope you enjoy learning it! Carl...
