Welcome to the GL365 Academy!
Hi Carl – do you any lessons specifically targeted at bending and vibrato technique?
Hey Bill, have you seen this?
I really enjoy your stuff, so thank you for sharing.
Quick question (I’m sure it’s a common one)…
I’ve been playing about 3 hrs. a day for about 3 months now. In that I’ve played the drums for over 30 years, I really thought I was “taking up” the guitar in leaps n bounds. Well…I think I’ve hit a wall. No matter how much I practice, I just don’t seem to be able to get beyond playing popular songs with pretty common riffs. My main problem at this point is that I have no ability, whatsoever, to transition between chords, nor can I seem to even come close to playing a decent bar chord progression. I’m not optimistic and am so discouraged that I’m close to calling it quits. I know they say most of the fun is in the process, but I’m not enjoying it much lately. Any advice?
Rich from Houston
Hey Rich, sorry to hear about your frustration in the first few months of playing guitar.
I can say from experience that the early stages, no matter how many hours your put into practicing can be very frustrating.
However, if you feel that it may be a technique issue, I would be happy to take a look at a video of you playing all those things you mentioned you are having trouble with to see if I can give you more detailed advice.
You can use the student spotlight uploader, and don’t worry I won’t use your video for the Youtube series if you don’t want me to. It would just help me see what is going on. 🙂
Carl, love the GL365 Academy… I saw a post a while ago saying you were going to create lessons on finding the tone for a song, (amp, pedals, etc). I use a Line6 HD-500X, would love to get more out of it.
Hey Steve, the tone category of the academy is going live today and will have new lessons added to it weekly! 🙂
I will also be doing some song/artist specific lessons on YouTube.
I am new here.
Have been playing acoustic guitar for many years and recently started trying to play the blues on my electric guitar ( an old but really great USA Fender Strat 1974)
I struggle to mute the strings when solo’ing with my right hand.
What should I do? Or not do?
Palm mute? If so.. where and how?
Would appreciate your help.
Hey Till, great to have you hear and welcome to the academy. I recently did a student spotlight lesson where the student had this exact same problem.
Here is a link to it https://guitarlessons365.com/proper-muting-for-single-note-licks-student-spotlight/
Let me know if it helps!
