Finished the blues, rock, metal and a good part of a couple of the other courses and I’m more than impressed! Your teaching skills are amazing, but, I have to take a break for about three months. We’re doing a large remodel to the house and nothing else in in the budget for about that amount of time!
    I’ll be back around July!
    Thanks again!

    • Carl Brown on March 13, 2018 at 10:02 am

Sounds good Randy! You will see many more lessons in the academy by June as well! 🙂

    Love this Carl!

I’m mainly a blues/rock/funk player but have always wanted to learn the fundamentals of metal guitar. Your course it making it a lot easier. Thanks heaps 🙂

    Love you MAN!!!
when you are going to upload the next improvisation levels for metal???
As I am a complete metal head.
thank you for all these amazing lessons…..

    • Carl Brown on May 22, 2018 at 9:23 am

Hey Mukul! Since the academy has gone live I am thinking about adding to all categories equally so I probably won’t have a complete level go live at once. Probably a few new chapters every couple of weeks or so. Look for lots of additions to the academy starting this week.

Also, the rock improvisation course covers much of the same material the metal course will and there are four levels complete in that one. Maybe check those out in the meantime?

      Carl…

    Hey Carl,
If I can make a request, could you start teaching songs by Greenday, Thanks.

  5. Joshua Crowlesmith on August 8, 2018 at 2:35 am

    Hey Carl

When I want to learn some songs I always go to your channel, because I’m a big Metallica fan and you post a lot of Metallica songs.
And you explain everything really well.
So today I wanted to learn Turn the page (by Metallica), but when I searched on YouTube, I couldn’t find a tutorial…
So I was wondering if you could teach us that song. It’s not hard so I think you’ll be done after one video…
And maybe you can give me a few online guitar lessons because I want to learn as much as possible…
I taught myself to play the guitar with help from you so my techniques aren’t the best 😉
    Thanks again!

    • Joshua Crowlesmith on August 8, 2018 at 3:19 am

      Ehmmmm…
      I didn’t mean that I can’t play well because of you…
What I meant is that I have taught myself wrong

  6. Angel Gonzalez on August 20, 2018 at 11:40 am

    Carl:
U…Da….MAN! Thank you so much for all your good work. Is it possible for you to do a tutorial on the Silverhawks 80’s cartoon intro solo? It is extremely short but fast, encompassing some good techniques. Thank you so much for considering!

  7. Jack Thomas on September 16, 2018 at 7:20 pm

    Hey Carl

It would be great if some of us Clutch fans could have some songs I have tried to learn a song called mercury off of clutch and I can’t quite get it and I have learn tabs but it’s hard could you look into it.

    Kind Regards Jack

  8. Drew Collins on November 24, 2018 at 4:54 pm

Hey 👋 Carl, was wondering can you still watch the 1 hour live stream on the Guitar Academy even though you have already done it for today? Also are you still going to start the Artist Tone Course by the end of November? Just give me an answer on the questions that I asked about! Thanks 🙏 Drew 🎸

    • Carl Brown on November 25, 2018 at 12:04 pm

Hey Drew, I plan on starting to archive the past academy live events starting with next week’s show.

There will then be a section of the site for all past academy live events.

The artist tone course is a different story. I am sort of stuck with the current recording setup I have in that it doesn’t allow me to record the guitars in stereo along with my vocal mic. That is why we have stopped just before the stereo delays section of the course. I plan on either upgrading to the full Helix or investing into a new audio interface this week so I can finish the time domain section of the course and then start cranking into the artist tones section of the course. Just a slight delay I hope. 🙂

  9. Drew Collins on December 6, 2018 at 9:19 am

Hey thanks 🙏 Carl so much for letting me know what’s up with the Artist Tones will be looking forward to really getting in depth with you on this! And also looking forward to seeing some of the Guitar Academy Live Streams that your doing! 🎸 Take care Drew!
P.S. still hoping that you will teach off of The Division Bell Pink Floyd’s song composition
    Marooned.

    • Carl Brown on December 6, 2018 at 9:32 am

Hey Drew, those tone lessons are on the way. I should be receiving the full Line 6 Helix tomorrow and will hopefully start completing the signal chain in the tone course next week.

Oh and Marooned will be the next Floyd track I do. 🙂

  10. Konstantinos Koutoglidis on January 16, 2019 at 3:47 am

Hi Carl, I have a question. I have a guitar teacher, and if I wanna learn a new song that isn’t on YouTube… he shows me the scale and so on, but don’t wanna show how to play the song because he says if I wanna learn a song I have to know what the artist is actually doing. Because If I just learn the song, I am only like parrot that trying to meme somebody else. I write also my own songs (to make a melodie or something like that I know that I have to learn some basic theorie) but why do I need this when I just wanna learn a song? He answered me If I just wanna learn a song I can use tabs and listen to the song because than I don’t need a teacher. My thought was is he the 65€ a month worth or I just sign up here?
I hope that my question is making sense 😅 ….I just wanna get better at playing guitar and not knowing in which key or scale I am. One last thing, If I get the premium, do I have more songs than on your channel or are the song more detailed on you’re side (tabs etc.). And what other advantage do I have? Thank you for your time replying me …cheers Kosta ✌️

    • Carl Brown on January 16, 2019 at 9:33 am

      Hey Kosta,

The Premium subscription gives you complete access to my GL365 Academy which contains my guitar courses. There aren’t any more songs available in there except for some classical guitar pieces and etudes I have written to help develop your technique. I can’t provide TABS for popular songs due to international copyright restrictions no matter what your subscription level is.

My academy is more focused on learning how to be a better guitarist and musician and isn’t focused on song tutorials. The song lessons section is for that.

I understand some people just want to learn songs and that is fine. But I do agree with your teacher in that being able to focus on your musicianship a bit (technique, theory, ear training) will help you learn any music you want to learn much faster. It will also help you immensely in creating your own music.

  11. Euan Morgan on February 24, 2019 at 2:40 pm

Hi Carl! Loving the academy! Is there any new content coming in the next few months? Thank you 😀

    • Carl Brown on February 25, 2019 at 2:26 pm

Hey Euan, do you mean in the academy itself or just the metal section? 🙂

      • Euan Morgan on February 26, 2019 at 2:55 pm

My apologies I should have been more clear, in the academy in general 🙂

        • Carl Brown on February 27, 2019 at 5:07 pm

Definitely! I am trying to focus on the sections of the academy that get the most requests but you should definitely see new lessons popping up all the time.

I am cranking them out as fast as I can. Is there a specific type of metal lesson or lessons you would like to see?

          • Euan Morgan on March 11, 2019 at 4:49 am

Hi Carl, sorry for the late reply. I would love to see some more tone videos if you could because I recently recently purchased a Pod HD500x from your recommendation and I am thoroughly enjoying it

  12. Paolo Marchiori on March 4, 2019 at 7:03 am

Hello Carl, first off, love your site! I used other online guitar schools in the past, but yours is definitely the best I have tried. So, happy student here. 🙂
Not sure where to ask, so I’ll put it here: along with other stuff, I am very interest in metal rhythm guitar and always found the band Anthrax pretty good at that, especially the songs off the “Among the Living” record. Would love if you added some songs off that record, in here….would it be possible? 🙂
    Thanks.
    Paolo

    • Carl Brown on March 5, 2019 at 5:07 pm

Hey Paolo, thanks a bunch for the feedback on the courses! I will check out that Anthrax song. You might be surprised that I think this is the first time in almost 10 years of this site that I have gotten an Anthrax request. 🙂

      • Paolo Marchiori on March 6, 2019 at 1:37 am

There’s a first in everything I guess. :)) The most representative song of that record is the title track “Among the Living”, at least for me. And it has some vary cool riffs in there. Strange nobody ever suggested it to you. Anyway, thank you. 🙂
        P.
