Moby Dick Guitar Lesson – Led Zeppelin

In this Moby Dick guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all of Jimmy Page's guitar parts for this great instrumental track from Led Zeppelin.

The tuning is dropped "D" tuning. The means that you will tune your low E string down one whole-step to D. All the other strings remain the same as standard tuning. The notes are, starting from the 6th string, D A D G B E.

Jimmy Page plays some cool riffs based around a I IV V blues progression before launching into four separate lead breaks. These lead breaks include blues based licks and triplet legato licks as well. I will demonstrate each lead break note-for-note.

After John Bonham's epic drum solo, Page comes back in with a variation on the riff heard at the beginning, finally culminating is three descending major barre chords to close out the song.

I hope you guys enjoy tackling this one, it is short but sweet!

Fantastic lesson! Thank you very much, Carl. Not terribly complicated. But, as always, there are subtle little things that I’ve been doing inefficiently … probably since I was 16 years old. I also love the emphasis you put on transitions and on picking direction. Really helps the song groove along better.

A Very Moby Christmas to you and yours!
