Outside Guitar Lesson – Staind
In this Outside guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all of the chords to this hit song by Staind on acoustic guitar.
The tuning is Eb standard tuning. That is, starting from the 6th string, Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb. Or if your tuner displays sharps for the chromatic notes instead of flats, those notes will be D# G# C# F# A# D#.
The version I referenced to create this guitar lesson video for "Outside" is their 'Unplugged' performance. What I will be covering in the lesson is chords that Aaron Lewis is playing. I won't be covering the 2nd guitar part that plays that really cool melody. The reason I am not covering that second guitar part is because it requires a very unorthodox heavily detuned (perhaps a baritone?) guitar. At least to perform it like they do.
So we will be covering just the two chord progressions that make up the entire song. The intro/verse progression and the chorus.
I hope you guys enjoy learning this easy acoustic hit from Staind! Carl....

Hi Carl,
I’ve been subscribed to you on YouTube for about 4 years now and absolutely enjoy your video lessons. I was browsing through the YouTube site and was shocked to see that you don’t have a lesson for The Eagles Hotel California. I mean, after all, you have Bee Gees lessons on the site. I figured that if I could learn this song from anyone besides Don Felder, Joe Walsh, or Glen Frey, it would be you. What is the likelihood you might someday do a lesson for this? Another suggestion I have, would be Crystal Ball from Styx. The acoustic parts for both of these songs are very melodic with some very nice picking patterns. Just a suggestion or two. Thanks for your time!
Hey Jeff, the chances of me doing anything by The Eagles in almost zero until they let people teach their music online without giving them copyright strikes.
I have already done Hotel California and other songs of theirs in the past but I had to remove them. 🙁
