Road Trippin’ Guitar Lesson – Red Hot Chili Peppers
In this Road Trippin' guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all of this great acoustic song from the Red Hot Chili Peppers note-for-note.
The tuning is standard tuning.
Guitarist John Frusciante uses finger-style guitar playing throughout in a style known as Travis Picking. The main element of Travis Picking is that there are a consistent stream of driving bass notes played by the thumb. The other fingers will play with or around those thumb notes.
To get good at this technique, you will want to focus on the thumb. Once you lock in with it's propulsive feel, the other fingers will fall into place much easier.
The verse and chorus sections are pretty consistent and repeat the same thing except for the last chord in the verse where Frusciante will at times throw in a fill. I will try to just keep it consistent though in order to speed up the learning process.
The most difficult section on the song by far in the interlude. Frusciante is moving chords around at a very fast pace while also really digging into those finger-picking patterns.
