Scuttle Buttin’ Guitar Lesson – Stevie Ray Vaughan

In this Scuttle Buttin' guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this fiery up-tempo blues instrumental by the great Stevie Ray Vaughan note-for-note.

Just like S.R.V., we will be tuning down a half-step for this video lesson. Starting from the 6th string, that is Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb.

As I mention in the video lesson, there is a lot of debate on how S.R.V. played the main lick that opens "Scuttle Buttin'" on the original recording. When performing live, he almost always played the main lick with slides while playing the notes with his middle finger. But if you listen closely to the original recording, at a very slow tempo, you will hear that they are probably bends, not slides.

So in order to satisfy everyone, I will teach it both ways and you can make the decision of how to play it according to which you like better. They both sound great at full speed.

This main lick can be a bit tricky to get up to speed, mainly because of the picking. I will show you a very economical way of picking that lick that will make it much easier for you to get everything up to full speed.

I will teach each section in the order that they appear in the song. Each phrase with be performed then taught note-for-note before moving on the next.

I will also let you know the exact minute and second mark I am at in the song so that you won't get lost.

I hope you enjoy learning this short, but incredibly cool instrumental from the incomparable Stevie Ray Vaughan!
