Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – Learning To Fly Guitar Lesson
In this Learning to Fly guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all of the chords to this great acoustic guitar song by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
We will be using standard tuning just like the original recording.
I think this will be a great song for any upper beginner and up guitarist to learn. It contains only one simple chord progression and contains no bar chords.
As I mention in the video lesson, Tom Petty liked to hold down the 3rd fret on the high E string over the simple open chord progression. This technique turns these basic chords into chords like Fmaj-add9 and Aminor7.
However, I am sure Tom Petty probably wasn't thinking about all of that, he was just trying to thicken up the sound a bit.
A little later in the song, those same four chords are played with a more aggressive strumming style. I will demonstrate the strumming pattern at that section along with the strumming pattern that occurs for most of the song.
I hope you guys enjoy learning this laid back classic from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers!
