Best Of Both Worlds Guitar Lesson – Van Halen

In this Best of Both Worlds guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this great song off of Van Halen's 5150 album in it's entirety.

The tuning is standard tuning.

Eddie Van Halen has a pretty unique guitar tone on this one, and typically he goes between clean and distorted tones by simply rolling back the volume knob on his guitar. I won't be doing that in this lesson though, I am simply using to separate presets on my Line 6 Helix.

I will take you through each riff in the song in the order that it appears on the original recording. Ee will be going from full strumming using a pick, to fingerstyle playing in the clean sections.

I will also cover the solo, and as typical with Eddie, it is quite the hand full.

There are some interesting licks in this solo. For one, he will play a melody with double-stops at the beginning of the solo, and then end up play that same melody later on in the solo using tapped pre-bends.

And of course, there will be a lot of challenging legato licks throughout. It is a very tricky solo to get right.

Good luck with this one!

Hey Carl my name is Justin from Korea. I remembered that I message you on Facebook. So nice to meet you. The thing I want to ask is recently you are using your sterling by musicman jp 100 guitar more than your new Ibanez rg in lesson video. Is that because petrucci 100 guitar’s sound is much better than Ibanez? Because I haven’t see your Ibanez that a lot.
