Breaking The Girl Guitar Lesson – Red Hot Chili Peppers

In this Breaking The Girl guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all of the chords for this great acoustic song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The tuning is Eb standard. That is, starting from the 6th string, Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb.

Just like John Frusciante, I am using a 12-string acoustic for this one. However, it still sounds great on a 6-string acoustic. So just play it on what you have, even an electric guitar, since even John plays it on a 6-string electric when playing live most of the time.

We will have 4 chord progressions to tackle here. The verse/intro, pre-chorus, chorus and bridge. I will tackle each one in the order that each appears on the original recording.

The chords John uses throughout the song vary from basic open position chords (pre-chorus) to much more uncommon chords like those found in the chorus.

The main riff that intros song and serves as the verse riff as well, uses a simple major barre chord shape taken up the fretboard with a consistent open A string in the bass. John includes quick little pull-offs from the A string under the chords as well to keep it interesting.

Have fun learning this acoustic classic from the Red Hot Chili Peppers!
