California Dreamin’ Guitar Lesson – The Mamas & The Papas

In this acoustic guitar lesson I am going to show you all the chords to the massive mid-sixties hit "California Dreamin'" by The Mamas & The Papas.

The first thing you will need to due in order to follow along with the lesson is tune your guitar to standard tuning and place a capo at the 4th fret.

This California Dreamin' guitar lesson starts with the guitar intro which is comprised of several guitar overdubs. I will show you the main part of that intro and the main overdub.

From there we will launch into the main chord progression which is used for 90% of the song. After the initial run through of the chords I will describe an easy way to memorize them so it doesn't feel like an endless stream of chords. It is a great chord progression and will make an excellent chord workout for the beginner level guitarist with it's use of open chords and bar chords at a rather quick tempo.

There is also an alto flute solo that uses the same chords albeit in a slightly altered fashion which I will explain in the video lesson.

At the end of the song we are finally introduced to a new chord progression that repeats at the very end to give "California Dreamin'" a big climactic ending.

These ending chords are the same that we used in the main chord progression though, so it shouldn't give you anything else to memorize.

This is a great song with incredible vocals. Simply put, one of the greatest vocal tracks of all time. 🙂 Enjoy!
