Cheap Trick – Surrender Guitar Lesson

In this Surrender guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all the chords to this catchy hit by Cheap Trick.

This is such a fun song to play with lots a great hooks and even a few unique guitar chords that you may not be familiar with.

Guitarist Rick Nielsen has a great ability to create melodic guitar parts that compliment the vocal melodies very well. "Surrender" is not exception.

We will be using standard tuning just like the original recording.

The opening chord is one of those that will probably be unfamiliar to you. You will take this chord and resolve it to a standard major bar chord.

As I mention in the video lesson, Rick Nielsen usually does the 2-4 string bars with his little finger. I also prefer to play them this way, but most guitar players find it pretty awkward.

During the chorus chord progression, using the little finger to do the bar actually makes the moving bass line easier to play, so even if you are uncomfortable with the technique, perhaps you can still give it a try.

One final note, I do mention in the video lesson about a slightly different way that Rick Nielsen will play the chorus live these days. I will show you that way and the way it was originally recorded so you can choose which you like best. 🙂

Have fun with this stadium rock classic!

Love it! I’m just a hack but really appreciate your lessons. Could I request a lesson for California Man?
