Hammer To Fall Guitar Lesson – Queen

In this Hammer to Fall guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this great guitar driven song by Queen note-for-note.

The tuning is standard tuning, however, with the remastered version that I used when transcribing the song, the pitch is slightly detuned so it might not sound quite right if you are trying to play along with that version.

Brain May launches into "Hammer To Fall" with the main riff that uses closed voiced triads using the 2-4 string set. While he plays this catchy rhythm he is also letting the open A string be heard under all of the chords.

I will go through each section of the song in the order that they appear on the original recording. Also, I am doing the single version here, this is the version that they performed at Live Aid and is on their Greatest Hits II album.

Brian May's solo is full of his signature melodic lines that seamlessly connect with a very legato feel to them. The are some tricky slides into bends and some quick legato licks, but this solo is still great for the intermediate level guitarist. I will take you through it phrase-by-phrase.

I hope you guys enjoy learning this Queen classic!
