Minor/Major Seventh Chords

This lesson concludes our study of all the seventh chord types using the CAGED Sequence on the guitar.

Our last seventh chord type to memorize is the Minor/Major Seventh Chord. The Minor/Major Seventh Chord is basically just a minor triad with an added Major 7th scale degree. It creates a very haunting and unsettled sound, but in the right hands can be used quite convincingly.

Now that we have studied all the unaltered seventh chord types you can get through just about any chord chart you see. Anything beyond a seventh in a chord is considered an extension (ie. 9th, 11th and 13th). We will work on extensions on this site in the future.

Be sure you can can now play all the seventh chord types off of the exact same root note.
