Lilac Wine Guitar Lesson – Jeff Buckley
In this Lilac Wine guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all the chords to Jeff Buckley's great cover of this classic song by James Shelton.
The tuning is dropped D tuning. That is, starting from the 6th string, D A D G B E.
Jeff Buckley plays some great chord voicings throughout his performance of this song. I will take you through each chord progression in the order that each appears on the original recording.
You will notice that he uses some standard fingerstyle technique along with a strummed fingerstyle technique that involves him sort of brushing the strings with an upward strum of his index finger to help facilitate a very soft sound.
Have fun adding this beautiful song to your repertoire!

The backup guitar sound doesn’t sound like a guitar. I don’t know how to describe it. It has this wonderful howling sound that his backup guitar player plays with a slide in the performance at Chicago in 1995. I hope you can explain it since it makes the song, I think.
