Metallica – The Unforgiven II Guitar Lesson
In this The Unforgiven II guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this Metallica classic note-for-note in it's entirety!
The is one of the most heavily requested Metallica songs here at GL365 and has some really cool guitar parts in it. The tuning is a half-step down from standard. Starting from the 6th string, Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb.
The main reason I have hesitated to do a complete transcription of "The Unforgiven II", is because of James Hetfield's use a a B-bender equipped telecaster in the main riff of the song. However, I have arranged that riff to be played without the B-bender and even though it won't sound exactly like the real thing, it is close enough. Since 99.999 percent of guitar players don't own a B-bender equipped guitar, I think this is the best way to go.
For the rest of the song, everything will be taught exactly the way it was played on the original recording in the order that it appears in the song.
There is a lot of octave melody work, harmony guitar melodies and cool chord voicings all over this song.
It think the chords used in the chorus are pretty unique when it comes to the type of chord voicings usually found in Metallica's music.
Kirk Hammett's solo has a lot of the same melodic devices used in "The Unforgiven" solo on the black album. I think this was intentional to help make this song a successful sequel.
I hope you guys enjoy learning this one. It is a monster lesson at almost 40 minutes, but it requires that to do this song justice.
Thanks!
