Monkey Business Guitar Lesson – Skid Row

In this Monkey Business guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this absolutely crushing track from Skid Row off of their Slave To The Grind album note-for-note.

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

There are plenty of challenges when playing "Monkey Business". It seems that all of the heavy riff riffs require you to not only be able to lock into a tight groove, but also play lots of fills thrown in around that groove that can be difficult to jump in and out of.

For the opening clean guitar section, guitarist Dave "Snake" Sabo uses hybrid picking to make the double-stops have sort of a spank to them. If you have never attempted hybrid picking before, this riff is a great place to start. He is then joined for all the heavy riffs by guitarist Scotti Hill.

Probably the most challenging rhythm guitar section of the entire song is the clean bridge section. Everything seems to be moving at a million miles an hour and it can be a big challenge to get all of the notes under your fingers at tempo.

I will also cover Snake's guitar solo note-for-note. Once again, there are some big challenges here. I will take you through the entire solo phrase-by-phrase!

Have fun learning this one and try not to hold your breath for the entire song. Haha!! Carl...
