Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) Guitar Lesson – Eurythmics

In this Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this smash hit by the Eurythmics in it's entirety.

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

The main riff of the song consists of a cool arpeggiated synth part on the original recording. I have arranged that for acoustic guitar. We can get pretty close to the actually notes except I think it is a bit easier to simplify the arpeggio over the last chord in the progression. I will show multiple ways to play that last arpeggio in the video lesson.

The next chord progression is strummed and I call this part a transition section. You hear this section 3 times during the song and each time it is slightly different so pay close attention to those small variations.

The bridge section contains a C min. 7 and F major chords. I have voiced these on the guitar to more closely match the synth voicings used on the original recording.

I will also transcribe the synth melody that is heard a couple of times during the song. The melody works out great as a simple guitar solo that can be played if your group has two guitarists available.

Have fun with this 80's classic! Carl...

    Hi Carl,

Loved that lesson. Being a fan of the Eurythmics (Actually went to the same school as Annie Lennox- albeit the year after she left!) would love it if you could put together a song lesson for ‘I Saved The World Today’ from the Peace Album or the gorgeous ‘Wonder’ from the Annie Lennox Bare album.
