The Needle And The Damage Done Guitar Lesson – Neil Young

In this, The Needle And The Damage Done guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this great acoustic song from Neil Young note-for-note.

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

There are some really great acoustic guitar bits to learn in this one. Even though Neil might have played this song slightly different throughout the years, the version I am focusing on is the one from the Harvest album.

At the beginning of the lesson, I talk about getting your picking hand locked into that consistent rhythm he uses throughout the song. It is a good idea to do that before complicating things with all of the fret-hand moves.

For the most part, we have have to sections to learn, the intro/instrumental version of the chord progression, which is played multiple times during the song, and the more simplified version of that chord progression played during the verse.

I will take you through each chord and demonstrate in detail how all of the melodic accompaniment is played on each chord as well.

Also, the last instrumental section at the end of the song is played a little bit differently than the previous instrumental sections, so don't skip it!

Have fun learning this great song from Neil Young! Carl...
