The Power Of Love Guitar Lesson – Huey Lewis & The News
In this The Power Of Love guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this great 80's hit from Huey Lewis & The News note-for-note.
The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.
The guitar enters with a power chord driven riff that is instantly recognizable. It is hard not to have a smile on your face while playing it. 🙂
From there, the guitar switches to a clean setting with a funky triad riff than can be tricky to play. These triads move by at a fast clip, but besides that, you need to continue focusing on staying in the pocket with the funky groove.
I will take you through all the versions of this riff and demonstrate any variations along the way.
The bridge section slows things down a bit and is more synth driven than the rest of the song. Because of this, the chord progression that I will show you how to play is based around the overall harmony the band is creating so that you can more closely match the sound of the original recording.
Lead guitarist Chris Hayes plays a killer guitar solo in this one as well. I will show you how to play his entire heavily blues based solo note-for-note.
Have fun learning this classic! Carl...

It really is a great solo. Do you know if there’s a tab for it?
It is best to just TAB it out yourself while watching the video. You will actually learn it much faster that way. I can’t provide TABS due to international copyright restrictions.
