You Really Got Me Guitar Lesson – Van Halen

In this You Really Got Me guitar lesson video, I will demonstrate how to play this classic Van Halen cover off of their debut album note-for-note.

The tuning Eb tuning, Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb

The intro is instantly recognizable with Eddie playing that classic riff in his own unmistakable style.

The verse section is based off of very simple chords, yet for each verse, Eddie employs a couple of cool fills that can be a bit challenging to play. I will show you each lick note-for-note.

I will go through each section of the song in the order that each appears on the original recording.

That includes Eddie's awesome guitar solo. This one is short but sweet, with a classic chromatic tapping run and some massive bends and legato playing. Lots of fun!

Don't forget the outro which has a little bit of a different chord sequence at the end of the chorus and that killer outro lick!

Have fun! Carl...

Unbelievable! I spent last night working on “Jamie’s Cryin'”. Then I wake up the very next morning to this! The psychic energy is spooky 🙂 Combining these lessons with “Eruption” makes for some serious Van Halen fun. Thanks a bunch. Keep ’em comin’.

Yeah this is awesome. Been trying to play this for over 40 years haha. Excellent job breaking down the outro solo… the official sheet music shows a bunch of other notes, but YOUR version actually sounds like the studio recording. Funny how players know how to play. THANKS
