Top Gun Anthem Guitar Lesson – Famous Solos

FavoriteLoadingBookmark this Lesson.

Well this one is kind of different, I don't think I have ever done a guitar lesson on a famous movie theme before but here it goes anyway.

The Top Gun Anthem was originally played by guitarist Steve Stevens (who plays with Billy Idol) and is heard throughout a lot of the huge 80's movie hit Top Gun.

There is nothing too technically intense here to worry about, just some really nice guitar melodies that will make you feel like you are soaring through the clouds. Hehe

This Top Gun Anthem guitar lesson will show you how to play the entire medley through both keys that it is played in. The entire instrumental is pretty much just these two sections repeated until a short guitar solo at the end.

Besides being a really cool guitar solo to play, I think the Top Gun Anthem would make an excellent solo to learn for someone wanting to find a cool solo to play that is just starting out soloing on the guitar.

There aren't any fast licks or death defying leaps here, just a simple guitar line with an epic melody. 🙂

The cool thing here is besides it being a simple guitar part, the two sections are virtually identical so learning the entire solo shouldn't take very long.

Be sure to add some nice vibrato to the sustained notes. That will help make the melody sing even more.

OK, have fun! Carl..

    Great lesson, great solo!
btw, what is a bar-dip? I played to solo without it and would like to know how to do it

A bar dip is when you take the tremolo bar and depress it down towards the guitar body. I will make the pitch of whatever you are playing go down rapidly. 🙂

are you using a particular pedal or is it just the type of guitar

I am currently using a Fractal Audio Axe-FX II for all my lesson videos. 🙂

Would you be able to make a video to teach the rest of the song like the tapping run and other parts, please?
